Stroppo – Italia – Occitania

This land was a part of Occitan longer than it has been a part of Italy.  Hiking along the merchant roads that carried salt, olives and anchovies from Provence to cross the border between Italy and France.  Following the stone path through the mountains where the cows and sheep spend their summers.  Historically people from this valley called Vale Maira speak the dialect spoken in southern France.

Standing on a hilltop where very few people on this earth have stood, I felt like I had accomplished something truly unique. More adventurous souls have hiked much more difficult and remote terrain, but for me and my comfort zone of adventure, this was something special.
